Strive for new capability, not a title. It used to be about working hard and smart to move up to the next career level or two with associated job title and more compensation. Today, the traditional career ladder is breaking with AI adoption and scale. Several business reinvention leaders I’ve been following and talking with suggest there won’t even be the traditional ladder to climb for many employees at any career stage; including college graduates in the near future.
As a parent of two great and capable college kids, soon to be early-career job seekers, I’m guiding them toward more ownership of their talent and investment assets. The time is now to form some new habits.
